Snacking on weight loss foods is one of the best ways to maintain a healthy weight, and there are dozens of different whole foods that can work well as weight loss snacks. When you are trying to lose weight, be sure that you are careful about the foods that you eat and stick mostly to whole foods and natural foods. In general, the foods that you want to snack on should be high in protein, high in healthy fats, and low in carbohydrates, simple sugars, and unhealthy fats. The foods you snack on should also be mostly natural and free from processing. If you need some inspiration for ideas, try the following weight loss snacks that can keep you feeling full throughout the day and help you lose weight.
Greek yogurt has been touted as being one of the best weight loss snacks because it is high in protein, and there are several varieties available that are low in fat. Even the full fat varieties of Greek yogurt are not nearly as bad as many other snacks. Dairy fat is not tied to weight gain in the same way that other fat in processed food and fried food is, and as long as the yogurt doesn't have a ton of added sugar in it, it won't make you gain weight. Avoid the varieties that add sugar and fruit in them; just add your own fruit and don't add any sugar or sweeteners if you are really trying to lose weight.
Grapes are convenient like Greek yogurt and they are an amazing weight loss snack when you don't have the time to make a small meal to hold you over. Grapes are rich in water content and fiber so that they are very filling, and they also have beneficial antioxidants and other compounds that can fight disease. Grapes are good for your cardiovascular system and are a great choice for a snack in combination with other foods like nuts, and they can help keep you feeling full until your next meal. Avoid eating raisins instead of grapes because they are higher in sugar and the lack of water makes them easier to eat in large quantities.
Edamame are soybeans which are a perfect weight loss snack and a great convenient option. There are several varieties of edamame snacks available, and they are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, protein, iron, vitamin E, folate, and many other vitamins and minerals. You can find edamame both frozen and fresh as well as dried, and they are low in calories while providing you with plenty of protein. You'll find that edamame will help you stay full for several hours like other of the weight loss snacks mentioned in this article which makes them one of the best weight loss snacks, and they are very convenient and easy to bring with you no matter where you are.
When you need something that is filling, delicious and satisfying, try a simple organic free range hard boiled egg or two. Adding a few low calorie condiments like hot sauce can make eggs delicious and they are very easy to prepare and bring with you to work or when you are traveling. Remember to avoid any varieties that are not free-range as these eggs are produced in lower quality facilities and are not as healthy for you as free range organic eggs. As long as you buy the right brand of eggs, you can enjoy these snacks without guilt, as dietary cholesterol was recently found to not have a strong link to blood cholesterol.
Sometimes it can be difficult to prepare vegetables when you need a quick snack, which is why vegetable chips are the perfect weight loss snack. It can take some time to prepare them, but having fresh zucchini, kale, sweet potato or taro chips available will definitely help you lose weight compared potato chips or corn chips. Vegetable chips are lower in calories and carbohydrates, and they also often have fewer additives and chemicals, assuming that you make them yourself. If you choose not to make them, you'll need to be careful about which brands you purchase, and make sure to read the ingredient label to make sure that your chips are natural.
If you are a fan of walnuts, you are in luck because they are one of the best weight loss snacks around. They are rich in healthy fats, protein, vitamins and minerals and can help you lose weight by keeping you full between meals. Other nuts that can work include almonds, pistachios and cashews, and all of them are about equal in their calorie content. They are also rich in omega-3 fatty acids which are great for your cardiovascular system, and several studies have linked weight loss directly with walnut consumption. Avoid the brands that add vegetable oil and other unhealthy fats to them during the roasting process.
Hummus is a great weight loss snack and it is very delicious and portable. It is very filling and although there are several different ways to make it, you can come up with your own natural recipe if you don't want to buy any of the store varieties and control the ingredients yourself. Many of the store varieties also use mostly natural ingredients. The chickpeas that are used to make hummus are packed with protein and hummus can work great as an alternative to mayonnaise or other condiments in sandwiches that are high in calories. Hummus is also the perfect healthy dip for vegetables instead of high calorie salad dressings and other dressings made with vegetable oil or other types of processed oils. Try eating hummus with fresh carrots, peas, celery, cucumbers and many other vegetables.
