Now that you've decided to do the HCG Diet, you may begin to wonder: What do I eat on the HCG Diet? When you begin the HCG Diet, you will be restricted to 500 calories a day. Not to worry, though: the HCG Diet is composed of many healthy selections of proteins and vegetables that can be liberally spiced up to enhance your flavor experience. The most important class of foods you will consume will come from proteins.
Proteins are an especially essential part of the HCG Diet and are mostly found in meats. You can enjoy beef, chicken breast, shrimp, crab, and fish. The reason why protein is such an important component to the HCG Diet is because it helps to foster the healthy replacement and replenishment of lean body mass, which is what is needed on the calorie-restricted diet. The HCG Diet works to eliminate excess stores of fat while leaving lean muscle alone, so it is important that you eat protein in order to keep the proper type of muscle while losing fat stores. The second category of foods you will eat on the HCG Diet is vegetables.
The vegetables that are allowed on the HCG Diet consist of items such as spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, cucumber, celery, red radishes, and asparagus. These are not to be mixed during Phase 2 of the HCG Diet. As mentioned, there are numerous spices that are allowed to help brighten up your meals and make them taste to your liking.
Some spices you may use include pepper, garlic, sweet basil, thyme, marjoram, parsley, apple cider vinegar, and mustard powder. The juice of one lemon is permitted daily. In addition, the commercial sweetener Stevia, is also allowed. You may also have a snack of two fruits each day. The fruit options include an apple, orange, 5-6 strawberries, or an orange. One optional grissini breadstick or one piece of melba toast is allowed per day. While you are on the 500 calorie-restricted diet, you must also be aware of what you drink.
Of course water is allowed and it is the preferred beverage. You should be sure to drink a lot of water, because water helps your body to naturally rid itself of excess fat. You can also drink mineral water, coffee, or tea (but be sure to use only Stevia as a sweetener if needed).
