A common question among HCG dieters is how to load when starting the HCG diet. Is there a right or a wrong way? There is a lot of information out there, so we are taking taking a moment to present you with the facts about loading, and of course, a little bit of our professional opinion as well....
Completing the famed HCG diet correctly means that you are abiding by the diet outline set up by the original creator, British physician, Dr. A.T. W. Simeons. In his original manuscript, Pounds and Inches, he lays the ground rules for the HCG diet; which includes Phase 1 of the program; often referred to as the loading or gorging phase. HCG takes roughly three days to properly get into the body and pull fat stores for use as energy. Dr. Simeons refers to these three first doses as "non-effective." Loading for these three days on higher fat foods allows the HCG to circulate in the body and prevents low calorie fatigue, hunger, etc. that would be expected if the 500 calorie protocol was started right away.
Again, there are many interpretations out there as to what exactly should be eaten in order to load successfully on HCG, but the main points to consider are as follows:
Loading should be done in a way that complements the diet, not hinder it. This means that binging on foods until the point of sickness is not necessary. It is normal to gain anywhere from 2-4 lbs. during loading. According to Dr. Simeons, most of the weight dieters gain during the loading phase typically comes off within the first few days of the diet. However, you don't want to spend half of your allotted 500 calorie diet time getting off the excess weight that you gained during the loading days. So, HCG dieters should be careful but also remember that they are not "dieting" at this point. Eat to capacity, but don't overdo it. Most HCG dieters discover that there are some "gray areas" for loading, but that it can be done successfully without going overboard and worsening weight gain.
Dieters on HCG who are loading should choose higher calorie/fat foods and eat until they feel full. . Higher fat content foods does not mean these fats need to be unhealthy. Almonds, avocados, egg yolks, olive oil, cheese, etc. are just a few of some higher calorie healthy fats. Many dieters also find that gorging on foods that are high in calorie and high in carbohydrates and sugar such as doughnuts, cake, and chips cause them to be more hungry when starting the 500 calorie portion of the diet. Initial withdrawals from these sugary foods can be uncomfortable. So lowering consumption of them early on in the diet may be key. However, if you are a pizza lover, for example, by all means, have a slice or two during this phase, but this phase only!
