HCG Phase 1 - Preparing for the HCG diet is usually half the battle; once you know what you're getting into you will be able to approach the diet from an educated perspective and you'll have a better chance of getting the best results possible. Although the diet is not extremely difficult, you can still take steps to prepare both your mind and body for it, and the more effort to put toward preparation the easier the diet will be. Keep in mind that Phase 1 is entirely optional; you don't need to participate in researching the diet in order to be successful at it, but it will definitely help you.
Only pick an HCG diet program that has a medical consultation prior to starting
You should only select an HCG diet program that lets you consult with a medical doctor prior to starting the diet. The HCG diet is not for everyone, even though the vast majority of people can participate in the diet without any issues at all. Only a medical professional will be able to tell you whether or not you are ready to start the diet or if there are any health considerations to take into account prior to starting. You should also bring up any questions or concerns that you have to your physician prior to starting the diet. At Nu Image Medical we have a medical staff that will contact you prior to starting the diet, and we are one of the few programs to offer this unique service. Take the time to grocery shop for the right foods
Grocery shopping for the right foods is important prior to starting to the diet, and you don't want to wait until the VLCD begins to start shopping because you run the risk of not having everything you need and resorting to eating food that is not allowed on the diet. At Nu Image Medical we provide you with a full shopping list of all the foods that you should pick from, and you should take the time to find out which stores offer organic foods in your area, as organic foods are preferable for the diet.
Take the time to read the HCG diet protocol and Pounds and Inches by Dr. Simeons
At Nu Image Medical we provide you with a detailed diet protocol explaining everything you need to get started with the diet in a condensed format. The protocol is based on Dr. Simeons' Pounds and Inches manual and provides you with an easy way to prepare for the diet. You can also read Pounds and Inches to get a better background into the science behind how the HCG diet works. At the very least be sure to familiarize yourself with the diet protocol that we provide you with. Click here for more information on our diet protocol and the HCG diet.
Consider a colon cleanse prior to starting Phase 2
A colon cleanse prior to starting Phase 2 can be beneficial for many reasons. Your body accumulates toxins from the environment and the foods that you eat. By detoxing your body with a colon cleanse prior to starting the HCG diet your body will be well prepared for the VLCD and the effects of the HCG hormone. Your energy levels will increase following the colon cleanse and you will also lose weight and feel better. It is one of the best ways to help your body "reset" to a more natural mode of operation and is one of the best preparatory steps for the HCG diet. The colon cleanse will also help your body get rid of Candida yeast which can cause may different negative side effects such as constipation, allergies, hormonal imbalances, fatigue and more.
Start eating breakfast
By eating breakfast prior to starting Phase 2 you will help your body improve its fat metabolism and maintain a more regular blood sugar throughout the day. This is especially important if you haven't been eating breakfast regularly. Although you won't normally be eating breakfast during Phase 2 (although you can have one of your fruit, protein, vegetable or bread servings for breakfast if you wish), your body will have the energy that it needs from HCG burning abnormal fat, and by eating breakfast prior to starting the HCG diet you will help reset your metabolism faster. So, it is important that you eat breakfast during Phase 1 and even prior to the three "gorging days" of Phase 2 you should be eating breakfast.
Eat organic foods and more vegetables
Prior to Phase 2 you should try to eat organic foods and include them as much as you can in your regular diet. It will make the transition to Phase 2 easier because you will know what types of foods and recipes that you prefer that are made with organic ingredients. You should try to include more vegetables in your in diet as well, because during Phase 2 you will be eating substantial quantities of vegetables as a way to stay full on a lower calorie limit. You can start experimenting with creative recipes prior to starting Phase 2 and come up with a few favorite recipes that you can keep using during the VLCD, as long as the ingredients are allowable based on the diet protocol.
Avoid high fructose corn syrup
High fructose corn syrup is proven to be unhealthy and can cause several health issues including insulin resistance and obesity. You should do your best to totally eliminate this from your diet prior to starting Phase 2. If you need an artificial sweetener try one of the many different Stevia sweetener products that are currently available. Stevia is the only approved sweetener for Phase 2 of the HCG diet, but even after Phase 2 is over you should still avoid high fructose corn syrup because it will contribute to weight gain. Stick to natural sugars in fruits or just standard raw organic sugar if you have to have a sugar fix once you have completed a cycle of the HCG diet.
Decide what foods you will eat during the "gorging days
During the "gorging days" you will want to eat high fat foods mostly to build up fat reserves in the body and prepare your body for the VLCD. You should eat high fat natural foods which can include organic butter, avocados, nuts, organic nut butters, cheese, and extra virgin olive or coconut oil. Even though you will be eating high fat foods, you will still want to avoid unnatural or processed foods. When gorging just stick to high fat natural foods and (preferably organic) dairy products, and those foods will provide you with the best preparation.
