Hair Loss on the HCG Diet

We're taking some time today to discuss the topic of hair loss on the HCG diet.

  • Does the HCG diet cause you to lose hair?
  • And what can you do to keep it from happening to you?

Starvation and fad diets can cause hair loss, brittle nails and teeth, etc. the main reason for this is is simply a lack of nutrients in the body. The HCG diet is different. Yes, it is still a very low calorie diet, but it can't and shouldn't be lumped into the "really-bad-for-you" diet category. The HCG diet is a physician  researched and developed weight loss program. By sticking to the low calorie regimen and giving yourself daily doses of prescription HCG, your body begins to essentially "live" on your fat stores. This does not happen with other diets. Only with HCG, will the body turn to fat breakdown as a fuel source so quickly and protect the body from muscle breakdown and metabolism downturn. Simply put, the HCG diet allows dieters to use stored fat for calories and thus results in dramatic weight loss. The dieter does not feel hunger pangs or energy loss because they are already being supplied by thousands of calories of their own stored fat!

If you do happen to notice some hair loss while on the HCG diet, it's important to make sure you are implementing these two things correctly first:

Make sure you are FOLLOWING the diet.

The #1 reason individuals may possibly see some hair loss on HCG is simply because they are not completing the HCG diet correctly. Any type of cheating on the protocol (yes, even a small bite here and there) brings your body out of ketosis, or  the "fat-burning" stage. Your body then loses the protection of the HCG , and without the fat being pulled for energy, the body will consider itself in starvation. Even eating 800 calories, for example, would be too many calories for the HCG diet and too low a calorie amount for normal eating. Not following the diet correctly can not only put your health at risk, but your hair, skin, and nails will suffer as well.

Take a Biotin and/or multivitamin supplement.
