The shakes can be used many ways in order to obtain the protein and 500-550 calories per day required.
1. When on the road, they can be used as a full meal replacement, substituting fast foods, etc.
2. Used to obtain the calories required per day. (more detail below)
Many people merely measure the food, and do not count the calories. BAD BAD BAD!
When we calculate peoples daily caloric consumption with them, most of the time they fall between 275-350 calories, way to low than minimum. The shakes can be used at that point to increase the needed calories for the day, and also provide mega protein which is always good!
500 calories is actually quite a decent amount of food once you take off all the sauces and yummy tasting stuff. There is enough room for 3 proteins per day, and veggies and fruits.
So, to answer your question, you use it as a meal when your daily food consumption doesn't reach the minimum required. So, if your still below, you can eat those fruits still.
Just weight each food and count the calories, That is all we are worried about.
