The Essential Process of Post Cycle Therapy

Post Cycle Therapy

When you look at a professional bodybuilder, you can see he’s as big as a truck, ripped in all the right places, and stronger than a tornado in a trailer park.

You’ll have what he’s having.

That may mean you’re taking a plunge into the pool of anabolic steroids. You know using them requires you to be responsible, so you get them from a trusted supplier at your gym and follow all of the advice you are given.

What Have You Done?

And What Happens Next?

Anabolic steroids throw the natural workings of your body totally out of whack. That’s why you should never stop taking them cold-turkey. Not only would this make the whole process of your muscle gain a waste of time, it would also be dangerous given some of the side effects of steroids. Nobody wants to experience the “post cycle crash.”

That’s why, after a cycle of steroids, you need a “cooling-off” period called post cycle therapy (PCT).

Why Post Cycle Therapy is Important

When you take anabolic steroids, you’re artificially increasing your strength and size, which can leave you looking as large as a house—a house that’s about to have some inevitable repairs.

The real trouble starts after you finish a cycle of steroids. During a cycle, your body goes on cruise control and stops producing hormones naturally.

This means that when you stop taking steroids, you have a gap where no hormones are being produced or are entering your system artificially. This leads to lowered levels of androgens but normal levels of corticosteroids. As you have an imbalance of androgens to counteract the muscle eating (catabolic) effects of corticosteroid, your newly formed muscle tissue may begin to disappear. No one wants that!

That’s why you need PCT.

Post cycle therapy is an essential process that people go through once they’ve finished a cycle of steroids. The objective is to get the body back to its normal state so it can start naturally producing hormones again. Once a run of steroids is over, a user will start post cycle therapy, which can last anywhere from 30 to 45 days.

What You Need for a Complete PCT

The science behind a PCT and the individual drugs needed is complex, but you can trust the science to the experts. What you need to know are the three main drugs used during PCT: Clomid, Nolvadex, and Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG).

These are the three drugs that make up a complete PCT. Clomid and Nolvadex alone are not effective at restoring natural testosterone production. They are best known as the drugs that support HCG.

Slowing Muscle Breakdown with HCG

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is not a steroid. It’s a natural peptide hormone. HCG is a fertility drug that mimics the luteinizing hormone (LH). It is an effective drug because it can shock the testes into producing testosterone quicker. This will slow the rate of muscle breakdown, known as catabolism.

When it comes to post cycle therapy, HCG is great as a precursor to post cycle therapy. It reestablishes testosterone production levels from the testicles.

Fire Up Testosterone with Clomid

Clomid is a drug that’s primarily used to boost fertility in women, and works to induce ovulation. However, it also has a variety of off-label uses, including helping to increase sperm count and improve motility in men.

It is also a useful drug to include as part of a post cycle therapy plan. When used after steroids, Clomid helps to fire up your testes to start producing testosterone again.

The best time to take Clomid is about two weeks after coming off a steroid cycle. This gives your body enough time to clear out the synthetic version of testosterone that you were taking.

The length of time it takes Clomid to work depends on which cycle of steroids you were taking. The stronger it was, the longer it will take for your hormone levels to return to normal. You also need to consider the length of time of the steroid cycle. A longer cycle will require a longer recovery period of PCT. Sometimes, it can take weeks for your body to get back to normal.

Clomid’s side effects are more common among female users; however, some male users have reported suffering from mild side effects after taking Clomid, including blurred vision, mood swings and acne. It’s rare for any of these effects to be serious, but it’s still a good idea to keep an eye on your health when using this drug for PCT.

Normalize T-Levels with Nolvadex

Clomid is often used together with Nolvadex during PCT. Known generically as tamoxifen, this drug is mainly used for breast cancer treatment in women.

In the bodybuilding world, Nolvadex is used during post cycle therapy to help suppress estrogen. Men coming off a steroid cycle often use both drugs to get their body back to homeostasis, and get their T-levels back to normal.

Like all drugs, Nolvadex comes with possible side effects. Similarly to Clomid, these effects have mostly been studied in women, but men are not exempt. Some side effects may include upset stomach, skin irritation, nausea, depression, anxiety, and loss of libido. Because the drug is predominantly used to treat breast cancer, most effects are associated with females who take Nolvadex for a much longer period of time. When used for PCT, the side effects tend to be minimal.

However, despite the fact that it helps restore your natural testosterone levels, Nolvadex can impact is your sex drive. And if you have all that muscle, you want to be able to perform in the bedroom, right?

What If You Don’t Go Through PCT?

Using exogenous testosterones,  anabolic steroids, and any other substance related to male sex hormones is a sure fire way to increase testosterone levels and deliver all of its desirable effects.

However, cease its use them without PCT and testosterone levels soon falter along with all of the associated benefits, followed by a catalogue of unwanted side effects.

The best case scenario, if you skip PCT, is you will lose all of the gains you worked so hard to get.

Worst case? Your hormone levels remain messed up for weeks after you finish a cycle. This can leave you with unfortunate side effects like hair loss, penile dysfunction, acne, and high blood pressure.

That’s not the way to become the best version of YOU.

PCT is extremely important after a cycle of steroids.
